Changes to Canada’s intellectual property laws are making it easier, cheaper and faster for companies to obtain and enforce their IP rights, say Andrew Montague and Andrew Kaikai.

The Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH)
Since 2008, Canada’s patent prosecution highway (PPH) programme has made it faster and less expensive to obtain patents in Canada. The PPH programme allows applicants who have received a finding of patentability in a participating patent office to seek accelerated examination in Canada, dramatically reducing average examination times from 35.6 months to just 6.2 months.
