Ridout & Maybee LLP is proud to have been chosen by Amazon to offer trademark law services to help sellers protect their brands in Amazon’s online marketplace.
Trademark protection is essential for all businesses, including online sellers. Amazon offers enhanced brand protection tools on its platform. The benefits of enrolling a trademark with the Brand Registry operated by Amazon include automatic removal by Amazon of inaccurate content and tools for reporting counterfeiting and other infringement on Amazon’s platform. Sellers listed with the Brand Registry also can access Amazon A+ Content at no extra cost.
But Amazon’s enforcement tools are available only if a trademark is enrolled with Amazon’s Brand Registry. Normally Amazon sellers must register a trademark with Canada’s Trademarks Office before accessing the Brand Registry. This requirement presents a challenge because the Trademarks Office backlog leads to a delay of at least three years from the application date until a trademark is registered.
Thus Amazon has established the IP Accelerator program. Amazon sellers can bypass the delay in enrolling with the Brand Registry by filing the application through an Amazon approved service provider such as Ridout & Maybee LLP. Once the trademark application is on file, an Amazon seller who filed its application through our firm can immediately enroll the trademark with the Brand Registry.
Amazon identified Ridout & Maybee LLP as a candidate for assisting its sellers through the IP Accelerator program and we were pleased to be chosen as a service provider after participating in Amazon’s assessment process. Our service fees are pre-negotiated by Amazon and Amazon does not charge sellers for participating in the IP Accelerator program.
