Who are we?

Ridout & Maybee LLP is one of Canada’s leading intellectual property boutiques, with offices in Toronto, Ottawa, and Burlington. With approximately 35 lawyers and agents, we are large enough to handle challenging and rewarding assignments, but small enough to enjoy a tight-knit and collegial work atmosphere.

Our Work Environment

Our staff are strong users of technology. We are a paperless office! In an effort to align with our “go green” initiative, the majority of our systems allow our firm to be paperless.

Lawyers and Agents

We have a team of lawyers, and patent and trademark agents available to provide expert opinions on your intellectual property.

Preferred candidates will have an undergraduate or graduate degree in chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering, computer science, chemistry, physics or a related field, and at least 2 years of post-call or post-registration experience gained in a reputable intellectual property department of a full service law firm or intellectual property boutique, and be able to work independently.

 

Support Staff

Providing direct support to our team of professionals are our skilled Assistants.  Our Assistants support the practice of our professionals by ensuring deadlines are met, drafting correspondence, processing routine correspondence, filing Office Action Responses, billing and reporting to clients, and much more.

Providing support to our entire firm, our Business Services Team is responsible for a wide range of tasks including conducting conflict checks, records management, processing incoming correspondence, attending to the payment of Patent Maintenance Fees and Trademark Renewal Fees, reception and facilities.

Our Filing Clerks assist professionals with the filing of Canadian, US, and Foreign Patents and Trademarks. Additionally, these individuals provide assistance with the legalization of documents as necessary as well as other services to all professionals.

Our Accounting Department is responsible for a variety of tasks addressing the financial aspects of the firm. Individuals working in this department are responsible for bookkeeping that results in the timely production of the firm’s financial statements.

Our Credit & Collection Department assist in the collection of accounts. This includes providing clients with information necessary to make payment of their accounts.

Our Human Resources Department manages various aspects in the firm including selection and recruitment, employee development, health and safety issues and benefit administration.

Our IT Department ensures the smooth operations of our infrastructure. As we are a paperless office, this becomes critical to our daily operations. They also work diligently on cyber safety and staff training.

Our Marketing Department assists with the firm’s strategic planning initiatives and is responsible for our social media presence.

Our Payroll Department is responsible for processing payroll and ensures compliance with various legislation. They are also responsible for third-party remittances of statutory deductions as well as manage the firm’s Group RRSP program.
