Fraser Rowand is a partner with Ridout & Maybee LLP in the firm’s Toronto office. He works with high technology companies to help them secure and leverage their innovations. He has successfully prepared and prosecuted patent applications in a wide range of technical fields, including mobile communications, internet transactions, analog circuitry, electromagnetic signalling, software algorithms, image and video encoding, and telecommunications equipment.
Fraser counsels his clients on the development of effective patent filing and prosecution strategies and provides guidance with regard to enforcement issues including validity, infringement, and freedom-to-operate.
He has successfully represented clients in proceedings before the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Canadian Patent Appeal Board, the Canadian Trade-marks Opposition Board, and the United States Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences. Fraser was most recently the successful lead counsel in Belzberg v. Commissioner of Patents, 2009 FC 657.
