Doug Wilson is a partner of Ridout & Maybee LLP in the firm’s Toronto office where he leads the Litigation Practice Group. Doug’s practice is focused on intellectual property and information technology, as well as computer development and licensing agreements.
Doug has acted as counsel in major patent litigation involving parties from around the world and hearings before the Federal Court Trial and Appeal Divisions and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has conducted litigation in the Ontario Courts relating to injunctions and trials concerning information technology, computer software, and misuse of confidential information and infringement of copyright. His trade-mark litigation experience includes injunctions and actions in the Federal and Ontario courts for large consumer product, food, and automotive industry clients. He has obtained Anton Piller Orders (civil search and seizure orders) in actions relating to computer software piracy and trade-mark infringement. He has also obtained civil contempt orders in both the Ontario and Federal courts.
Doug successfully represented Jaguar Cars in the Remo Imports Ltd. v. Jaguar Cars Ltd. et al (47 C.P.R. 4th) case which clarifies the protection given to famous trade-marks.
Prior to joining Ridout & Maybee LLP, Doug was partner and chair of an intellectual property practice group at a national general law firm, where he practiced IP and information technology litigation.
Doug is also a trained arbitrator and member of the panel of the Arbitration Mediation Institute of Ontario.
